Introduction
A .zpln file is a note from Apache
Zeppelin, a web-based notebook aimed at data processing with tools such as Apache
Spark, SQL databases and Python. A note is made of paragraphs; each one starts by
naming the interpreter that runs it, so one note can mix languages, and its results
can be shown as tables or charts.
Older versions of Zeppelin stored each note as note.json in a folder
named after the note’s ID. Version 0.9 changed to one file per note, named after the
note with its ID and the .zpln extension.
Structure
A note is a JSON document. Its top level holds the note’s name,
id, settings and a paragraphs list. Each paragraph holds its
text, which begins with the interpreter name such as
%python, %sql or %md, its display settings, and
its last results, so a saved note shows its output without running
again.
