Project file formats
Project files are kept by an IDE such as Visual Studio, Xcode or IntelliJ IDEA. They list the source files that make up a program, the settings to build it with and how it fits together with other projects. Most are text, XML or a simple structured format, so they can be kept in version control beside the code.
