Introduction
A .procreate file is the working file of
Procreate, the painting app for the iPad made by
Savage Interactive. It keeps the layers, blend modes and masks of a painting, and can
also hold the recording of how it was painted.
The format is not published. To use the work elsewhere, artists usually export it from Procreate as a PSD, PNG or JPEG.
Structure
A .procreate file is a zip archive. It holds
Document.archive, an Apple binary property list that describes the canvas
and its layers, a preview image at QuickLook/Thumbnail.png, and a folder
per layer with the pixels stored as compressed tiles.
