Introduction
A .wpl file is a playlist saved by Windows Media Player, introduced with
version 9 in the early 2000s. It is XML in the style of SMIL, the W3C’s multimedia
language, and lists media files by path along with the playlist’s title and some
settings.
Structure
The file starts with a processing instruction <?wpl version="1.0"?>.
The root element is smil. Its head holds
meta elements (such as the generator and item count) and a
title. Its body holds a seq element, in which
each media element gives one file in its src attribute,
usually as a path relative to the playlist.
