Introduction
A cue sheet is a plain-text file that describes the layout of a CD: its tracks,
where each one starts, and their titles and performers. It came from the CDRWIN
burning software and is used in two main ways. For audio, a whole album is often kept
as one FLAC or WAV file with a cue sheet beside it, so a player can show and play the
separate tracks. For disc images, the cue sheet describes the tracks of a
.bin image so that burning software or an emulator can rebuild the
disc.
Structure
Each line is a command and its values. FILE names the audio or image file
and its type (WAVE, MP3, BINARY…).
TRACK starts a track with its number and type, such as
AUDIO. INDEX 01 gives where the track starts, as
minutes:seconds:frames, with 75 frames to a second; INDEX 00 marks a
pregap. TITLE and PERFORMER can appear for the whole disc
and for each track, and REM lines carry comments and extras such as the
genre and date.
