Introduction
An .rpp file is a project saved by
REAPER, the digital audio workstation from
Cockos. Unlike most music projects it is plain text, so it can be read, compared and
even edited in a text editor, and scripts can generate or change projects. Audio is
kept in separate files that the project refers to by path.
REAPER also writes .rpp-bak backups in the same format.
Structure
The file is a tree of blocks. A block opens with a line starting <
and its type, such as <REAPER_PROJECT, <TRACK,
<ITEM or <SOURCE WAVE, and closes with a line holding
only >. Between them, each line is a keyword followed by its values,
such as TEMPO 120 4 4 or VOLPAN 1 0 -1 -1 1. Plug-in states
are stored as base64 text inside their blocks.
