Introduction
A .band file is a project saved by
GarageBand, Apple’s free music
app for the Mac, iPhone and iPad. It holds the song’s tracks, regions, software
instruments, loops, effects and recordings.
Logic Pro can open GarageBand projects, which makes it the usual way to move a song to more advanced tools. Apple does not publish the format.
Structure
A .band project is a macOS package: a folder that Finder shows as a
single file. It contains the binary project data, the recorded audio and imported
media, and usually a mixed-down preview of the song that other apps can play. The
binary project data is undocumented.
